In a deep chemical peel a solution is used to treat the skin up to the mid reticular dermis. Mostly phenol is used for this peel.
This peel is performed in the surgery theater due to the risk for rhythm disturbances from the solution. Directly after the application of the solution the face is covered by plasters. There is severe redness and swelling for 3-4 days with peeling of the skin from day 7 to 8.
After the peel During this time there is a need to stay at home for recovery. After this there is redness that lasts for 3-4 months which should be covered by make up.
This peel can improve surface irregularities, pigment spots (solar lentigines), superficial and deep wrinkles and premalignant lesions (solar keratosis) and skin sagging.
As nowadays there are better and easier procedures for the same indications such as fractional CO2 lasers, this procedure is rarely performed.
