Stretch marks appear as erythematous (striae rubra) or hypopigmented (white striae, striae alba) bands of atrophic skin.
Even though multiple treatment modalities have been employed for this indication most of them (e.g. 585 pulsed dye laser) are effective only during the erythematous, inflammatory stage and not during the white or later stage.
